Blackout Policy

Are you prepared for a blackout?

A blackout refers to a prolonged, Europe-wide power, infrastructure and supply failure. Local power outages, such as those we experience in Austria after severe storms, are not blackouts. Power shortages (power saving and partial power cuts) are also not blackouts.

Dear students, dear lecturers,

to help you prepare for a blackout, here is some information:

How can I prepare for a blackout?

With the right preparation, you can get through a blackout safely. The following links provide important information and checklists to help you prepare for an emergency:

·         Die Helfer Wiens

·         Stadt Wien

·         Zivilschutz Österreich

·         Bundeskanzleramt Österreich

What is the correct procedure in the event of a blackout at FHWien der WKW?

Please follow these instructions:

1.    The wko campus wien will be evacuated.

2.      Remain calm and follow the information you receive from the responsible staff at FHWien der WKW, hear over the loudspeaker, read on the FHWien website or receive by email.

3.      Pack your personal belongings, go home alone or in groups and wait there until the power outage is over.

·         If you are an employee of FHWien der WKW: Take your company laptop and mobile phone with you and observe the clean desk policy (lock away sensitive documents and lock your office door).

·         Use the stairwell and not the lifts! In the event of a power outage, the lifts will automatically go to the ground floor – no one will be stuck.

·         Please note that access to the car park is possible, but the entrance and exit are blocked.

·         On your way home, expect traffic lights and street lighting to be out of order. Be careful!

4.      As soon as power is restored: Visit https://www.fh-wien.ac.at/ to find out when study and work activities will resume on campus and check your FHWien email inbox for updates.
